Daniel R. Simon202/661-2212 Telephone Daniel R. Simon is an associate in the Business & Finance Department and a member of the Energy and Project Finance Group. His practice concentrates on energy regulatory issues, focusing on matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Simon served as a trial attorney in FERC's Office of Administrative Litigation. At FERC, his work focused on litigating and settling numerous regulatory disputes covering a broad range of ratemaking and market-manipulation allegations involving wholesale electricity markets, including several disputes involving the Western United States electricity crisis of 2000-2001. Mr. Simon played a lead role in developing novel legal theories ultimately adopted by FERC regarding market participants' violations of market-based rate tariffs, as well as in negotiating settlements with several market participants regarding alleged violations of the California Independent System Operator tariff. Additionally, Mr. Simon served as law clerk to the Honorable Jackson L. Kiser, Senior U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Virginia.
Mr. Simon is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association.
Mr. Simon is a graduate of Duke University (A.B., cum laude, 1993) and University of North Carolina (J.D., with honors, 1999) where he was note editor of the North Carolina Law Review. |
