Bill Curran702/471-7000 Telephone Bill Curran is managing partner of the firm’s Las Vegas office and a partner in the Real Estate Department, the Resort and Hotel Group, the Zoning and Land Use Group, the Energy and Project Finance Group, and the Public-Private Partnerships Group. Mr. Curran concentrates his practice in administrative and government law, particularly in the areas of real estate development, land use/zoning and gaming law. He has built a strong gaming practice through both his tenure as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission and his assisting some of the gaming industry’s eminent casinos and emerging gaming jurisdictions through the multi-jurisdictional regulatory process.
Mr. Curran was active with the Nevada Gaming Commission, first through his appointment to the Commission in 1989 and then serving as chairman from 1991- 1999. He served as chairman of the International Association of Gaming Regulators from 1993-1994. Mr. Curran was a law clerk to Chief Justice E.M. Gunderson of the Nevada Supreme Court from 1973-1974; deputy district attorney from 1975-1979; and county counsel for Clark County, Nevada from 1979-1989.
Mr. Curran is a member of the American Bar Association (State Bar Delegate, 1991-1994; State Delegate 1994-2006; and member of Board of Governors, 2006-Present), State Bar of Nevada (Board of Governors, 1979-1989; President, 1988-1989), State Bar of California, Clark County (Nevada) Bar Association, and the National Association of County Civil Attorneys (President, 1984-1985). Mr. Curran received the 2007 Liberty Bell Award in recognition of his sense of civil responsibility, dedication to promoting a better understanding of the laws and courts and to his contribution toward a first-rate government in the local community. Mr. Curran is listed in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as “Leaders in Their Field” in the area of gaming & licensing, 2003/2004 through the 2007 editions. He also received the University of Nevada, Las Vegas International Gaming Institute Educator of the Year Award in 1998. Mr. Curran is co-author of “Nevada Judicial Orientation Manual,” National Judicial College, 1974. He has also served on the United Way of Southern Nevada Board of Directors since 1990; as a board member of Southern Nevada Public Television (2000-Present); and is a founding member of the Outside Las Vegas Foundation (1999-Present). Mr. Curran is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (B.A., magna cum laude, 1969) and the Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley (J.D. 1972). |
