C. Baird Brown is a partner in the Business & Finance Department and a member of the Energy and Project Finance Group. His practice includes the development and financing of power plants, waste disposal and recycling facilities, oil drilling and refining assets, pulp and paper facilities, satellites, and toll roads. He handles mergers and acquisitions of energy and environmental companies, including restructuring and workouts of troubled projects. He has counseled clients in connection with taxable and tax-exempt, rated and unrated, and registered and unregistered financings, credit enhancements, and leveraged leases. He has worked extensively on public/private partnerships and privatization of public services.

 

Mr. Brown is active in electric industry restructuring and the development of competitive energy markets. He has represented an independent system operator on market design issues. He has assisted in the establishment of a private energy trading platform and the development of new energy-market products. He provides corporate advice to emerging industrial technology companies.

Mr. Brown is a board member and past president of Globalaw Limited, an international legal network headquartered in Brussels. He chairs the International Visitors Council of Philadelphia, an organization which hosts State Department sponsored visitors to the United States. He is on the board of the Farm and Wilderness Foundation, which runs camps and outdoor education programs and manages wilderness land in Vermont, and he serves as a Vice President of the Electricity Committee of the Section of Energy and Resources Law of the International Bar Association. Mr. Brown serves on the Energy Subcommittee of the Ecosystem Management Advisory Committees which advises the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources on energy policy issues affecting state forest lands.

Mr. Brown began his legal career in the Office of General Counsel of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Mr. Brown is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo (B.A. 1973) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D. 1978).
