Mr. Birkeland is a partner in Jackson Walker's Business Transactions section, chairman of the firm's International Group, and a member of the firm's Energy Practice Group. His practice includes all aspects of real estate, real estate development and real estate finance as well as international and domestic oil and gas exploration and production activities and financings related thereto. He has handled project transactions and the workout of distress situations in a variety of contexts. He has also counseled clients in numerous corporate and partnership matters domestically and internationally. Mr. Birkeland has lectured on oil and gas law and mortgages at The University of Texas.

Mr. Birkeland is a graduate of The University of Texas (B.A., magna cum laude, 1973) and The University of Texas School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1975).
